Aerosol Contract Filling: Filling of Your Sprays

You have a product but no filling facility of your own. Or you want to expand your capacity without investing in equipment. Contract filling of aerosols at Aerosols Germany covers the path from enquiry to goods ready for dispatch. Filling takes place at our production partners in Europe; Berger & Schröter coordinates the project and handles quality control and dispatch in Iserlohn.

Aerosol contract filling: the process

  1. Enquiry and coordination. You tell us the product type, required can size, quantities and whether you are bringing your own formulation or want to use one from our range. We clarify technical feasibility and open points such as propellant, valve and spray head with the production partner.
  2. Samples. Before the production run, you receive samples from the production partner for testing in your application. We coordinate adjustments to the formulation, spray pattern or components with the partner in this phase.
  3. Series approval. With your approval, the formulation, can, valve, cap and label are bindingly defined. Labelling under the CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 and the Aerosolpackungsverordnung (German Aerosol Dispensers Ordinance, 13. ProdSV) is agreed in this step.
  4. Series filling at the partner. The production run is filled, labelled and fitted with caps at the European partner plant. The checks during filling, such as fill quantity, leak tightness and function, are carried out there in accordance with the requirements for aerosol dispensers.
  5. Quality control in Iserlohn. After goods receipt, we inspect the goods in Iserlohn, including label, batch marking, components and condition of the cans.
  6. Packaging and dispatch. The cans are packed in cartons and palletised to your specification. Dispatch from Iserlohn goes to your warehouse, your logistics provider or directly to your customers. Aerosols are dangerous goods; the shipping documents are prepared accordingly.

Your own formulation or a formulation from the range

There are two routes to contract filling. If you bring your own formulation, we check its suitability for aerosol filling together with the production partner and match the propellant and valve to it. Alternatively, you can use one of the around 150 formulations from our range, from paint sprays through lubricants and cleaners to testing sprays, and have it filled under your name. You can find out more under Private Label.

Can sizes and components

Can sizes from 150 to 750 ml are filled. Valve, spray head and cap depend on the product and application, for example a spray head with extension tube for lubricants or a wide-spray head for paints. We define packaging units and palletisation together with you.

Who contract filling is suitable for

For manufacturers of chemical-technical products who want to add an aerosol to their range, for brands that outsource their production, and for distributors who want to carry a product under their own name. You have one contact person in Iserlohn who coordinates formulation, samples, approval and series filling with the partner plant and inspects the goods before dispatch. Send us your enquiry with product type, can size and quantity.

Frequently asked questions

Can I have my own formulation filled?

Yes. We check your formulation together with the production partner for suitability for aerosol filling, in particular for compatibility with can, valve and propellant. You receive samples before series approval. Alternatively, you can use a formulation from our range of around 150 technical sprays and have it filled under your name.

Which can sizes can be filled?

Can sizes from 150 to 750 ml are filled. Which size makes sense depends on the product, the application and your sales channel. Valve, spray head and cap are matched to the product being filled. We define the packaging unit and palletisation together with you.

How does the sample phase work?

After formulation, can size and components have been agreed, you receive samples from the production partner for testing in your own application. We pass feedback on spray pattern, effect or components on to the partner and coordinate the adjustment. Only with your written series approval are formulation, can, valve, cap and label bindingly defined.

Where is filling done and what happens in Iserlohn?

Filling and labelling take place at our production partners in Europe. In Iserlohn, we inspect the incoming goods, pack them to your specification and ship them as dangerous goods to your warehouse, your logistics provider or directly to your customers. We check the label in advance for the mandatory information under the CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 and the Aerosolpackungsverordnung (German Aerosol Dispensers Ordinance, 13. ProdSV).
